Best French Onion Soup

Any recommendations for great french onion soup in central/west Los Angeles? I'm planning a birthday dinner for my boyfriend (its his favorite), so I'm looking for something a little romantic as well.

He likes lots of cheese.

    Unless Hollywood is too "un-central," Cafe des Artistes fits your description.

      I like La Dijonaise in Culver City because it's not that salty. I also recall a good one from Monty's in Westwood years ago but I'm not sure how it is now.

          moustache cafe (which is now chocolat) on melrose used to have a very tasty one.

            You must try Chez Mimi in Brentwood/Santa Monica on 26th Street. Their French Onion soup is a classic. The way it should be. Very romantic and cozy. Service is excellent. The food is much more traditional french bistro in a darling environment. Not too fussy - but really charming. Would suggest that you call for a reservation.
