German liverwurst
In Berlin this summer I ate a number of interesting liverwursts. Returning home, I find Schaller and Weber to be the best quality liverwurst I can readily get, but am wondering if there isn't something hand-made that's still better. I'm particularly interested in finding a coarse liverwurst with truffles. Any ideas?

The German deli counter in Grand Central Station has a large selection of German meats -- it's worth checking out to see if they have what you want.

That seems to be "German Royal Hams", a.k.a. Koglin's (www.koglinroyalhams.com). I finally made it there to take a look, and yes, they look good. I'll go back tomorrow to see for sure - they open at 7 am. One thing that's attractive is that they seem to have home-style leberwurst in real casings.

Yes, indeed. Koglin German Royal Hams, in the Grand Central Terminal Market, has the widest variety of liverwursts I have seen in New York in recent decades. At least a couple of these are coarse, home-style recipes. I've just tried their inexpensive Saxonian home-slaughtered variety - superb!
Thanks for your recommendation.
