Strawberry Mansion Closing

pilinut Oct 9, 2006 07:18 PM

First, I'd like to thank the Hounds who suggested the waffles at Strawberry Mansion. A nice, big waffle with fresh fruit and bacon on the side was my brunch today, enjoyed on a cool, shaded patio. And it was the Perfect Waffle: very crisp on the outside, tender on the inside. Laced with that warm carmel sauce that thickens to chewy as it cools--it was probably the best waffle I've ever had. (I think the Strawberry Mansion caramel is an especially good idea because it doesn't make the waffle soggy, unlike syrup.)

Then came the bad news: I asked to buy a jar of the carmel sauce, and the waitress said that they're not selling them anymore. They are closing this Wednesday! Only two days more :(

Although I will be missing the stone crab season by a day, at least I got to try that marvelous waffle and that wonderful caramel sauce. . .

    What's a Strawberry Mansion?
    I'm in Tampa...

We all need to mention locations when we talk about a place...

I ask because now I want Waffles!

I heard about the Mansion closing, but where you actually ate the waffles on the patio -- was it Beau Jeans?? It's all part of one big compound, but I think it is actually 2 different restaurants. Beau Jeans is (was) the best place for a very nice breakfast - always crowded on Mother's day and the morning before the Melbourne Art Festival. What a shame. We certainly don't need any more condos around here!
