when i walked out after spending $56 (without tip) for 2 sub-par pies, 2 waterglasses of cheap wine, inappropriately loud music, and a 40-minute wait for the food, i wanted to yell at the queueholders:
"the Emperor has new clothes!"
C'mon, this is not New York pizza, it's more like what i'd expect in a Paris cafe. of course they don't sell by the slice...who would pay $7.50 for a slice of NY pizza with virtually no ingredients?
the pie was reminiscent of a Passover version, matzoh-like with a few tomatoes.as a matter of fact, there is no difference in taste between the 4 selections on the menu. no salads to soothe the interminable wait for a pie that spends only 5 minutes in the oven.
not even a free glass of water, only the bottled kind (don't even get me started on that subject!)
i was so unsatiated after the meal, that i stopped off at Yonah Schimmels' for a hot pototo knish, a full meal for only $2.50.
if you want New York pizza, go to DiFara's or Totonnos's. Adam Platt, you should be ashamed of yourself!

I haven't been to the place, but if your main basis for criticizing it is that "Una Pizza _NAPOLETANA_" doesn't serve NEW YORK pizza, don't you realize that's off-base? Neapolitan pizza IS about having "virtually no ingredients"! They DON'T top their pizze sky-high with this, that, and the other thing. Price and amount of food is another matter, though.

Ate there the other night, and I totally disagree about the pizza.

Having eaten a number of pizzas IN Naples, I can attest that this is authentic Neapolitan. And it's bloody delicious. If you only like New York pizza, go somewhere else.

"Virtually no ingredients"?? If you ask me, anyone who orders a pie in New York with toppings is out of his or her mind. This is the city where plain rules supreme.

Additionally, our waiter was ver nice and was happy to bring us a bottle of free tap water. Yes, they bring it in a bottle, but I actually like that, since you don't have to keep asking for refills.

I agree about the prices and the portions, however. $20 for a pie that'll feed one is a bit high in my book.

Personally, I loved the pizza - thought it was great. But, I thought Little Frankie's pizza gives them a run for the money - a similar crust. Expensive yes, but I didn't pay as much as bbq man. Avoided the water and drank beer.

I'd agree with randymac88 about the Lil Frankies comparison. Ever since Una Pizza opened, I'd wanted to go sooo badly, but never seemed to find myself near by. Finally, I was, and so went in, solo, around 5:30. Place was quiet, just two other tables occupied. I ordered the margherita. The dough was amazing. I loved it and didn't at all find it too thin. Chewy, a bit salty, heaven, for me. Toppings were as to be expected for this sort of pizza and i loved the sauce, but could've done w/o the oil, i don't care if it's supposed to be that way or not, i just don't care for it. In all, it was delicious. However, like most things, after a few bites (and i ate it very slowly, in the hopes of still tasting), it was just pizza. I guess that's when i understood why a tasting menu works. but that's another post... However, the price was ridiculous. Given that you can get an almost as delicious pizza from Lil Frankies, I don't think I'd go back to Una again.
