I looked in Gourmet for Calvin Trilin's piece on Johnny Apple's 70th birthday celebration and couldn't find it. With Apple's death, I want even more to read the article. Would appreciate anyone posting the article or a link to it. Thanks

I believe it was the August '05 issue of Gourmet. I don't think it's available online. Did quite an extensive search and couldn't find it. I came up with a New Yorker article on Apple by Trillin, but not the Gourmet.

I believe it is actually April or May 2005 - I was perusing my Gourmets a couple of months ago and remember it being in one of those months. Sorry I don't have a link.

I think it was earlier than August. Maybe April or May.

Just went back and took another look and found a reference someone made to the article in March, so perhaps it was the March issue? Still can't find the article itself though. Might it be in one of Trillin's collections? Anyone know?

It is in April 2005 - I have it in front of me. I doubt it is in one of Trillin's collections at this point - I'm not aware of him having any new food books out.

Good point. I never saw the Gourmet article when it first came out and would love to read it. Guess I'll just have to wait for Trillin's next collection.

You might try your local library.

Been there, done that. The local branches carry the circulating copy only. Would have to go to the main Mid-Manhattan branch and have it retrieved from the periodical archives. Ashamed to admit I'm too darned lazy. I'll wait for the book.

JoanN - I'm in Manhattan and could lend you my copy. Email me at mmruthathotmail.com if you like.
