Quimbaya - Colombian coffee shop in Ossining

Had a scrumptious little breakfast there this a.m. that I had to let you all know about. This little Colombian place is basically a takeout coffee shop w/baked goods like empanadas (filled w/meat and cheese), arepas and other pastries. I had what they call "cheese bread," which was very similar to the Brazilian pao de queijo. It was really remarkably good, though - crusty on the outside, soft and springy on the inside, with just the slightest tang. This was washed down with one of their many hot chocolates. I had "el presidente," which was milk, unsweetened cocoa, panela (cane sugar, I think), cloves and cinnamon. It was a little on the thin side, but w/great flavor. Note, though, that this was one of the only ones that was listed as made w/milk, as opposed to others on the menu that listed half & half or heavy cream as ingredients. Everything came to just over $3.

As an added bonus, staff and other customers were friendly. Who needs Starbucks?!

Church Street (just off Rte 9)

  1. Thanks so much for this review! I have heard good things about this place and can't wait to try it.

    1. That's great to know. Neither my wife nor I are coffee drinkers, so we've ignored the place. However, she loves hot chocolate, so we'll have to go check it out.
