Dinner for a large group

I am throwing a bachelorette party for my best friend and want to stay away from anything that resembles a place where one would take a bachelorette. She loves foods of all types. We are looking for more of a dinning experience with really good food, preferably sharing friendly food such as Tapas (one of her favorites). Any ideas?

Azafran is great. It is a bit out of the way (the lower end of Tribeca) but worth the trip - great food, cool atmosphere, good for a group. A little pricy but not awful.

Pompano--high 40s and 3rd Ave. We went as a large group and had a wonderful time. It's new style Mexican--good service too. good reviews seen here on Chowhound. Very nice atmosphere--classy Mexican. No tacky Mexican feel at all. Ours was a business group and it was really cozy. Large tables upstairs that feel intimate.

Alta on 10th street btw. 5th & 6th. Great place with small plates--cool atmosphere. Love going there with my 2 sister-in-laws. Nice selection of wine also.
