<content>This could have been the event of a lifetime for 'hounds who love Chinese food, but it seems to have taken place in more secrecy than a Bohemian Club get-together. (But maybe that's why it's called the CIA.)

Any other reports out there, first hand or otherwise?

<content>This is the only related story Google News Search pulled up. Maybe Olivia Wu or someone will bring us the sequel...

<content>Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I did a radio report on the conference which you can listen to at the link I'm including; or if that link doesn't work, go to kqed.org/pacifictime and find the audio archive for November 25, 2004.
The conference was the CIA "Worlds of Flavor" which is an annual event and open to anyone (anyone who can pay the fee); it sells out months in advance, or so they told me. This year was Asia but the regional emphasis changes from year to year. I'm sure the CIA site has details on how to find out about next year's.
It was a terrific conference and I was surprised there weren't more journalists there, though there were some people from speciality magazines whose reports are probably still in the works.
I did interviews with Fuchsia Dunlop and Elizabeth Andoh and a lot more of the Thai Ambassador which didn't make it into this piece, but we might use them in the future -- I'll try to remember to post if we do.
