Shichirin grilling at Tiger Lily

I was just at Tiger Lily in Los Feliz the other day and got to try their new Shichirin grill menu. It's this Japanese charcoal grill made from clay (NOT hibachi or robata, which is usually a metal griddle) that you cook little cubed meats like steak and fish on. It is apparently a popular Japanese tradition. The grill amazes me - it's smokeless so you don't leave smelling like Soot Bull Jeep (K-town fanatics you know what I'm talking about!), and the meats cook nice and easy so the flavor and juiciness is retained.

I'm in love with this contraption. Anyone out there know where I can buy one of these things? Or if any other restaurants have Shichirin on their menu?

And for those of you who haven't tried it, I highly recommend checking it out. A plate of steak, shrimp, tuna and salmon costs about $20 or so, and comes with rice, salad, mushrooms and three sauces. Here is the address:

Tiger Lily
1745 N. Vermont Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90027
