Any recommendations? For good sandwiches or salads in particular?

  1. Jamaican Flavors jerk chicken sandwich is the best. It's on Sullivan.

    1. I always love a good chicken shawarma or falafel from Rainbow on 17th. Otherwise, you could try 'wichcraft, which delivers too.

whoops - i thought union square. sorry bout that.

      2. Dosa Man! Washington Square South, closer to the West.

        1. Pio Maya on 8th between Macdougal and 6th. I haven't tried their tortas, but I'm a fan of their tamales, burritos, and tacos.

Abbondanza's on Bleecker near Macdougal has good sandwiches and salads.

The bing lady (Roll and Dough?) on 3rd near 6th is great, too.

          1. Pamela's Bake Shop on W.4th. It's teeny tiny and to go, but it's absolutely deeelicious!

I loved Pamelas! I used to go there a few times a week, but sadly it closed a couple of months ago.

              Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

            2. ali baba for falafel - on macdougal - east side of street across from the more crowded mamoun.

              1. I lived for three years as a broke grad student on Washington Square South, so my recs are slanted toward the very, very cheap, but here goes:

The Pizzeria, on McDougal about halfway between West 3rd and Bleecker: two slices of really good pizza and a drink for $4 can't be beat.

For salads, oddly enough, I think the best ones are at the Campus Eatery at 25 W. 4th, if you don't mind fighting your way through the undergrads. Abbondanza's always made me feel queasy for some reason, though their sandwiches are pretty good.

The window of Shade Bar on W. 3rd and Sullivan makes great savory crepes.

Going a bit more upmarket, you're only a couple blocks from Tomoe, the somewhat overrated but still pretty good holy grail of NYC hole-in-the-wall sushi places.

                1. Mamouns on MacDougal and W3 for the cheapest, and in my opinion, best falafel in the city.
