Bars that serve champagne cocktails?

Kosmonaut Oct 2, 2006 06:02 PM

I've recently become interested in trying champagne cocktails and have amassed a collection of recipes, but I've had a hard time finding a bar that has no problem adding champagne to a drink recipe. Most places either don't have champagne, or don't want to open a bottle for one cocktail because they're hoping to sell the whole bottle.

Are there any bars in LA (preferrably Westside) that specialize in champagne cocktails?

Thanks!

Not a bar, but French 75 has many.

The champagne cocktails at French 75 that I had weren't very good. As another poster wrote, it tastes like they use cheap champagne. Also, the "French 75" they make doesn't follow the traditional recipe, which was disappointing. That said, they definitely offer champagne cocktails. Also, you might want to try old school restaurants like steak houses, they usually serve champagne cocktails (although I've never been turned down anywhere I've ordered one.)

F75's champagne cocktails are a bit of hit and miss-- the champagne part of it is unremarkable (though I wouldn't imagine any place making cocktails out of bubblies to use the good stuff), so much of it depends on the flavoring. I liked the Chanel (strawberry-flavored) and the blackberry ones--but yea, the French 75 didn't do it for me.

Yep, I think most of David Wilhelm's restaurants (French 75, Chat Noir, etc.) are big on their champagne cocktails (unfortunately, most are in OC -- I think there's one in Burbank and one in Century City). Champagne drinks are half-priced during their "bubbly hour" -- until 7pm I believe.

Another place that's pretty good is Crepe Vine in Pasadena - but pretty basic stuff (usually champagne and one other liqueur/mixer)

The bartends at the O-Bar ( www.obarrestaurant.com ) are pretty well-seasoned, and can probably whip up something for you upon request (either something your specify or let them choose) -- they do have a Scarface mojito made with champagne though that's pretty tasty. Try to make it before 8pm for half-price! ;)

Not 100% sure but I think the bar at the Edendale Grill in Silver Lake sells champagne by the glass as well as kir cocktails, etc

Edendale Grill definitely has champagne cocktails -- they make a very nice kir royale.

I also like the champagne cocktails at Vermont Restaurant (on Vermont near Hollywood in Los Feliz). They have a champagne cocktail made with elderflower water that is really good.

I was at Vincenti last wedsnesday and the bartender made me a cocktail with Aperol (sp)? and champagne...it was quite good. I asked around about aperol and appreantly its an organe flavored appartive from Italy...it seems to go really well with Champange.

Morel's Bistro at The Grove does a traditional champagne cocktail with decent champagne. I have a friend who is a big champagne cocktail fan and he thinks it is very good.

I forgot about The Little Door, they have several very good ones that appear to use quality bubbly.
