Yum Yum Fish - au revoir monsieur poisson

The rumors must be true. There's obviously new ownership.

The French guy is gone. His world cup signs are gone. The boudin is gone.
The sushi chefs are gone. The fish monger guys are gone.

We got fish last week and yesterday - and both times they tried to sell us way more than we asked. The first time we asked for 1 lb, he sliced 1 1/3 lbs. We got it anyway. Yesterday, we wisened up. He sliced 1.5 lbs! And was all like, 'why not?'

I live around the corner, so this is very bad news. :/

We had sushi a few weeks ago before realizing what was going on - and it wasn't noticeably different. However, they do have a noticeable lack of selection now. There was never a lot before, it's definitely less, now.

  1. Oh, that's a shame. The French guy was so much friendlier than the surly woman at the register. The sushi chefs always seemed nice.

Guess you have to ask for 2/3 of a pound.

I'm so sad to hear this! I loved that French guy and the sushi.

    2. This is a loss. I loved the quirky personality of Yum Yum, and the fish quality, and crab quality too.

      1. I was at the restaurant recently, and was dis appointed by the change of management, and the smaller slices of nigiri hamachi. I have been a loyal customer for 10 + years, but it is no longer the same. The hotate was so dead that my wife nearly spit back out the sushi.

        1. That is horrible news for us - but hopefully it's good for Frenchie, his crew, and all the sushi chefs and crew. I wish them all the best (I hope they all made a lot of money!!).

With the loss of Yum Yum and the ever so slight differences at Sunrise Deli (since their change of ownership), I don't think I can call Irving between 22nd & 23rd my favorite block in the city much longer...

Tried dinner at Yum Yum today... it wasn't as satisfying as I recall. I think it's even the rice. It's not flavored rice! It was just bland. I need to find a good, reasonable take out place.

Sounds like you were at Yum Yum House on Valencia, which is a restaurant and open for dinner, and not Yum Yum Fish on Noriega, a fish counter, that is the subject of this thread. Or maybe you're commenting on the sushi rice?

Yes, the sushi rice at Yum Yum Fish. I have yet to make it to Yum Yum House.
