re: Davwud
While I was waiting for my spinach eggplant roti to be assembled on Wed night at the Island Foods in the Grange, the girl beside me ordered a spicy beef patty in a coco bun with gravy from the oxtail stew and sauce from the chickpeas. It looked so bizarre yet so tasty that I'm going to order one the next time I'm there! Has anyone else tried the beef patty this way? The guy at the counter said he's had requests for the beef patty to be wrapped in a roti with the gravy too. Yum!

re: Helen
At Island Foods, they are sandwich style and VERY addictive. I just read this thread that explains what they are.

BTW, the chickpeas are whole at Island.

I really like the roti's here.
For me, the only way to eat them is the Bone-in chicken roti with lotsa hot sauce... make sure you have a lot of napkins nearby!Their hot sauce is fantastic! It's a family secret recipe. My dad's been trying to copy for years and he still can't figure it out!
Enjoy!

re: Hondapendragon
I just went last night and had a boneless chicken roti with spinach instead of potatoes and two doubles (all with hot sauce). Loved the doubles! Best $1.50 snack around. The roti would have been great except the spinach was waaay salty. Maybe the spinach needs the potato to balance it. I'll call it a bad batch and be back for more because everything else was yum and the woman helping me was so nice.

They are outstanding, even if a wee bit greasy! Try the Boneless Chicken Roti with hot sauce. They make great doubles as well. Their jerk chicken dinner plate is also very good and tasty...never dried out as they heat it to order.
On the negative side...the line up can be slow moving.

YUM!
delicious!
i personally love their boneless chicken breast roti, my partner loves the channa.
i'm a spice wimp so i just ask for no spice, my partner likes things spicy, he gets medium, apparently it's a reasonably hot medium. they do also offer mild, but i'm happy with the no spice version.
if you do a search for island foods on here i bet you'll find a lot, there have been many mentions of it when people are searching for a good roti.
