Heart Attack Grill

Perhaps I'm a bit late on the whole Heart Attack Grill discussion but I'd just walked into the place the other day and am still in utter amazement. Why isn't this place a coast to coast chain??

Burger Lover ... You are clearly talking about a different place. ... I was at the Heart Attack Grill on Saturday and the price was $11 for a single, fries and soda. ... The burger was anything but gourmet, though the scenery was nice. ;)

Read my review from a few months ago...

It is an OK burger and certainly the BIGGEST anywhere, but the bacon was invisibly thin (prefabbed into the round burger shape...like mcdonalds) and the burger was just a glob of meat. Not much flavor.

It is what it is... a place to go with the guys at lunch but I wouldn't go there again on my own if I was after a good burger. Chuck Box has a better tasting burger...REAL charbroiled on mesquite charcoal.

Easy to believe that the 2nd location closed up...

We are obviously not talking about same Heart Attack Grill. The place has perhaps the most gourmet burger I've ever tasted, and I'm not just your average dickhead. Burgers are a near religion for me. I haven't been to that Delux place you mentioned, but it sounds a little steep! The Heart Attack Grill is only $6.50 for a half pounder. Ya can't beat that.... or their Nurses.

It is the same one. HAG has been reworking its corporate model (much to the chagrin of JK and myself). I thought it was much, much better a year ago when they grilled their burgers, you could top it with a fried egg, and the fries were made to order.

As for Delux, it is worth every penny.

The most recent thing to hit critical condition at the Heart Attack... the toppings on the fries. I'd imagine because it's Americans didn't quite get their brains wrapped around the concept of gravy and cheese on fries.

Likely because they opened less than a year ago. I know they want to aggressively franchise the place and shoot for national expansion (a good rule of thumb for lackluster food: The more obvious the franchising attempts, the less they're paying attention to the food). They had a second Tempe location near ASU, which died after maybe a month; this past spring they were going to open a location in north Scottsdale, likely around the airpark, but it went kaput before it could open. The one thing that the original location has that the others didn't is the location. Not the specific location (as far back as they're tucked in that strip mall, you'd never know it was there), but the general location: Right next to the Intel plant, with lots of men who would certainly enjoy a giant burger served up by eye candy over their lunch break.

Oh, and if you think the burgers at Heart Attack Grill are good, head over to Delux. A Delux Burger is one of the most expensive in town (9 bucks, fries are extra), but soooooo worth it.
