Petrossian Restaurant/Cafe

Hey 'hounders,
Is their stuff any good for breakfast (at the cafe) or lunch (either)? Is it worth paying for? What's your take on this place? Thanks.

I had a $20 lunch there two years ago and, well, it was not worth paying for. Lovely ambiance though. Obviously things might have changed... or perhaps they shortchanged the cheap lunch and expensive dinners might be done well... but I'm not going back to find out.

Dean and Deluca used to carry their raspberry bran muffins which were one of my favorite things to eat for breakfast but for some reason they stopped carrying them (only plain bran type now). Made me sad :(

This is a very very expensive cafe. Do not even THINK about value. Go in with that mindset.

That said, the service is solicitous though casual. The food (in the cafe, not the restaurant) is rather casual though high quality. The items that line the shelves for sale are very very expensive: a jar of preserves is $18, a bag of coffee is $18, cookies are expensive, the smoked salmon and caviar -- well if you have to ask the price you can't afford it. You are paying for the name.

That said, the croissants are terrific and the madeleines were some of the best I've had.

I really enjoy the restaurant's caviar service at dinner. If budget is a concern, this is not the restaurant for you.
