cooking school or wine/scotch tasting dinner for fancy boyfriend. HELP!

I was wondering if you have any great suggestions for cooking classes in nyc. My boyfriend is turning 40 and I'd like to sign him up for something special for an intermediate/advanced level. He likes to eat/drink too so if you know of any great wine dinners or scotch tasting dinners end of Oct. any thoughts would be much appreciated. He's a fancy pants kinda guy and loves the brandy library and that kinda stuff. Help!

The Brandy Library actually offers spirits tastings/classes about once a week. A quick look at the website shows a $120 single malt class on October 31 that would probably be a great gift (I know I would like to receive it).

Has anyone tried the classes at the Brandy Library? The reviews of the bar in nymag are not very positive....

My husband took a class from Ethan of Brandy Library but it was at the Astor Center. He loved it. We've always had a good time at the bar. Not sure I would put a lot of stock into NY Mag user reviews.

Took a bf once for his birthday. He loved it. I was the only female there and the rest of the group was a bachelor party, and I was dying to leave.

The Institute for Culinary Education (www.iceculinary.com) on W. 23rd St. has tons of interesting classes for every level. I got my boyfriend a couples cooking class last year and we had a great time (and made a delicious dinner).

i 2nd ICE. My wife and I took a maki class - tons of fun, food, wine and sake. it's become a "go to" gift for us to give.
