San Francisco Hound here for only a single dinner, have to eat it early, before a 10PM flight, more interested in local and delish than white tablecloth fabulosity. staying downtown at the VIP Diplomatico, planning a stroll on waterfront. Utterly open to suggestions!

Hi. In Lisbon, it's all happening in the 'Bairro Alto' district- I would recommend hieing yourself there by cab (cabs are cheap in Lisbon). There are loads of bars and restaurants there, the best of which, for traditional but classy eating, has to be 'Papa Açorda' (Rua da Atalaia, n.57-59). All the BEST people go there, dahling.

If you're looking for something more laid back, there's a restaurant & wine bar called 'Sul' also in the Bairro (Rua do Norte, n.13), which is foreign-owned, with a more international flavour to the menu. But, really, I recommend just wandering around the area to soak up the vibe, during which time you're bound to find something, if those two aren't to your liking.

    Hope this helps, -R

Given your timing, I wonder if you might be more relaxed doing a late/extended lunch...

We're from SF too, and we loved Pap' Acorda. Upscale Portuguese home cooking. GET the chocolate mousse for dessert. Trust me.
