Joey & Eddie's in Noe Valley now Pescheria

The new sign is up, the place is open, and it's very promising. The remodel is nicely done, a long way from the Greek place or the flowerfied J Cafe. And a full bar? Unheard of in outer Noe.

We had wines by the glass, which are rather limited but the larger list of bottles looks interesting.

Dinner started with creamy polenta with crab (x2), reminiscent of Front Porch in items only. The julienned radishes and lightly dressed greens made for an enjoyable combination of tastes and textures. The crab was sweet and flavorful.

Mains were the halibut baked in parchment, which my friend enjoyed, and the sea scallops, which were interesting to me for the bed of pureed celery root and the olive-tomato sauce, which turned out to be totally deconstructed on the plate. However, the cherry tomatoes in the sauce were of excellent quality, the little pile of chopped olives provided a sharp counterpoint, and the scallops were perfectly cooked, and again, very sweet and fresh.

The service was professional and they were totally on top of the place, although it was never very busy while we were there.

Overall we enjoyed the food. Dinner for two with four glasses of wine came to $100 pre-tip, which actually isn't particularly spendy for shellfish provided in good quantity.

They have highchairs but I wouldn't dream of taking my toddler there -- too small, lots of ambient noise (although not impossible noisy) and overall more of an adult place.

  1. Hmmm, I thought for sure the puree under the scallops was a parsnip/potato one, but I didn't ask the ingredients. Perhaps it was different on different nights? It was very tasty though.
