When the alumi association calls to get donations from my brother, he replies with, "Why would I donate to ULM? I graduated from NLU." hehe
I miss Nicky's so much. I live in Phoenix now, so I have access to great Mexican food, but it's not the same as the beloved Nicky's from my childhood.
And Johnny's Pizza? My lord! I love the stuff. It's not like pizza anywhere else on the planet, but I have to eat it when I'm in town.
If you decide on Notini's, I'd love to know what you think.
Have a fun shopping trip.
We got a Nickys in West Monroe about a year ago. We agree that is is great! We thought it would be another bad chain place but we loved it. My husband got the carne asada and said it was the best steak he had ever ate. I didn't know BC had the original.
Is you brother upset that his alma mater no longer exists? It is now the ULM Warhawks. Ridiculous.
Notinis sounds great too. I'll let my sister decide.
Thanks for the help!
re: Becca Porter
I live in Dallas now, but my entire family is in West Monroe. When i go home for a visit and pass all those restaurants on Constitution near Thomas Road, every one of them will be full except Nicky's...and Nicky's has so few people there that i am asking myself if they are even open. I wonder why it isn't catching on over there...or maybe it is just a coincidence that i happen to pass by only during their slowest moments?
Hi Becca, I grew up in Bossier, but haven't lived there for 10 years, although my family does and I go home regularly. My brother went to NLU and loved Monroe!
Ok, so with three kids in tow, you may just want to stay at the Boardwalk. I've not eaten at any of those chain location, but you have the link if you decide to stay there.
If, however, you choose to leave or have lunch/dinner before or after I have two kid friendly options.
Notini's. It's a little Italian place, a BC institution actually. Their pasta is "eh", but their muffalettas are really good! I must have them two or three times whenever I'm home. And the sweet mint tea is to die for!!! It's on the corner of Airline Drive and Hwy 80 across the street from Pierre Bossier Mall. It's in the strip mall with an Old Navy, Blockbuster, Booksamillion, etc. Check it out www.notinis.net
Another option would be Nicky's Mexican Restaurant. The Bossier City location is the original, on Airline Drive between Old Minden Rd and Barksdale Blvd. It's great tex-mex. The carne asada is yummy and their enchiladas are fab. too bad you have the kiddies, because they make a mean margarita. www.nickysmexicanrestaurant.com
