Rice pudding hunt

ZoeZ Sep 28, 2006 09:48 PM

I was so hungry for rice pudding yesterday with plenty of raisins in it and more puddeny than custardy. It was 9.30 so Fromins was the only choice on the way home - pretty good but whipped cream was fake. Looking for some Westside choices because I want more today (just got off the treadmill).

The Grill is so far ahead that I'm not even sure what comes in second.
Unless you count Thai sticky rice desserts, which I'm not.

Is there still a Hamburger Hamlet on Sepulveda near National? If memory serves, they had a really good rice pudding - not sure about the whipped cream, though.

Perhaps you will like the rice pudding at Bristol Farms or Gelson's; this way, you will be able to eat it on the treadmill!

Not the westside, but if you're ever downtown, my favorite rice pudding in LA is at Engine Company 28.

donald wressell at the four seasons BH used to make an incredible german rice pudding (and i have the recipe). but he retired in may and is now consulting for guittard in the bay area. it may still be on the menu. it's worth checking.

I LOVED his desserts. Never could get away with only one order.

Piper's on Western and Beverly in Koreatown...sometimes it's all I'll have there.

Gosh, I remember Pipers from Mme Zoe and I were still in our office downtown a century ago - we used to stop for the RP and a wonderful Salisbury steak - really truly good stuff. Went a while ago and its now some kind of coffee shop plus Korean restaurant. Forgot to check out the pud.
