Ack - my brother in law and his sweetheart, who are non-fish eating vegetarians, may be coming up for Christmas eve dinner at our place. Being a confirmed omnivore, I'm way short on vegetarian main-dish recipes. Can someone recommend either (a) a source of good vegetarian recipes (I tried Epicurious.com and got a whopping one recipie - macaroni and cheese -to my request), or (b) a good vegetarian (but not necessarily vegan) recipe for a nice but not fantastically-fancy main dish I can make? Pasta primavera is right out (tried that last time - he hated it), but we'll try just about anything else you can suggest.

Thank you so very much in advance, and merry everything, everyone!

The Ranch 99 supermarkets in the Bay Area have a huge selection of fake meat products made of soy, and some made of gluten ("chicken" nuggets, soy noodles, bean curd cakes with different marinades, that type of thing). They are in the refrigerator section.

The Safeways and Trader Joes in the Bay Area also have an OK selection of stuff like tofurky sausages, soyrizo, etc., which are easy to use in place of the real meat stuff.

Costco has these absolutely wonderful soy portobello garlic burgers.... you get something like 16 of them for $8. You can use them in a casserole type dish, either whole or cut into chunks.

You might also want to do a search on the net for Laura Buckley's Hot Tofu Salad.

We have a new board all about cooking and related topics. It's called, appropriately, Home Cooking. Please repost there, and you'll get plenty of help.

Please hold replies until Dee has a chance to move to Home Cooking. We'll be deleting this thread here.
