Friday night we were out with friends in Bethesda. The plan was to go to Black's but we couldn't get in. So, we headed across the street to Houston's. I always forget how consistently good that place is. From the service to the food, they are top knotch. I love their Hawaiian ribeye. It is so sweet and tender. And, their house salad with the bacon and that garlic ranch dressing - delish! Just had to rave about this wonderful little place that I love.
You know, Houston's doesn't get high marks on this website for some reason. I totally agree with YOU. I always love Houston's. Can never decide what to get: the Tuna Sashimi Salad, Hickory Burger, or Fish Sandwich......mmmmmm.
And one of the best veggie burgers out there... real veggies, no filler...Great shoestrings and ALWAYS very clean with terrific service. My husband loves their french dip (I think that is what it is called there) and their burgers are also terrific!
Count me in as a fan...
The sashimi salad rocks! I love it. In fact, I'm having it for dinner tonight. Their French dips are great too. Their soups are consistently good too.
Houston's is a very UNchain-line chain.
You can't beat them for consistency and overall good food. And they haven't caved into the "More is Better" mentality - they don't pile a bunch of food on your plate so that you walk out thinking you got a great deal...just a great meal.
I can eat the spinach artichoke dip over and over and over again.
I'm glad I'm not alone in liking Houstons. I'll confess - when I travel on business, I'm always pleasantly surprised if I find a Houstons near my hotel. It's got a comfort food sort of thing going for me.
I love the Hickory Burger. It's always such a satisfying experience there, especially after trying so many disappointing places in my own NYC that are inconsistent with surly service. Houston's is also very comfortable and calm and feels intimate. A nice break from frenzied, loud and cramped spaces.
Here's a secret that some of you might already know about. It's not on the menu but they have it. Ask for the Flying Chicken Platter. It's super crunchy tempura-like chicken tenders with fries and dipping sauces. I never get chicken fingers but these are exceptionally juicy and succulent. I always order it as an appetizer to share but you can get it as an entree. Every Houston's has it...it's just a secret.
