North Fork winery country?

Do you know of any great places to eat on the North Fork? Haven't been in awhile, anything new that's fantastic? Old favorites welcome of course. Favorite wineries to visit? Any other travel tips for the area? THANKS!

I had an excellent meal at Jedediah Hawkins Inn,in South Jamesport back in June - a week after it opened. I wrote a lengthy review. Give it a search!

We spent 11 summers on the North Fork, and asde from buying from the farm stands and butchers (Wayside in Southhold, the absolute best), there were few choices. However, change has come to the ever-sleepy North Fork, and we had a couple of fantastic meals at The Frisky Oyster in Greenport. From what I understand, there are several new, promising restaurants out there, including another in Southhold whose name escapes me. The Jamesport Country Kitchen was, for many years, the best you could get on the North Fork. Their duck was pretty memorable (smoked and then grilled, as I recall). I believe the NY Times has had a recent article on the changing tide in restaurants in the North Fork, so google that for the very latest, but you can't go wrong with The Frisky Oyster!

The one in Southold is probably North Fork Table; it used to be Coeur de Vignes. The scene really is vastly improved...

How is it vastly improved, exactly? It used to be like going over an old friends house for dinner, except with a world class chef, I'd be interested in what your take on it is exactly. Or do you just mean "The Scene" like with capital letters.....The old chef Ari was one of the best I've ever met, yet I understand why they had to get out of the business right now, but why are you putting them down? Not that I've been there lately.

I think you may be reading this wrong. I would guess that the "scene" referred to is the general North Fork dining scene in its entirety, the new places that have opened etc, and not specifically North Fork Table vs Coeur de Vignes.

Coll, sorry, I meant the "scene" in the area in general. I have not been to the North Fork Table, nor did I ever go to the original place. When I first began spending summers at the far east end of the NF, there were really very few dining options, or at least I did not know of many. Now there really does sem to be a "scene," for better or worse.

I definitely agree with you on that, it's nice that you now have a choice of homey vs upscale. Sorry I sounded peeved, but Couer d'Vignes used to be our favorite special occasion restaurant and we miss it and its "scene", the very best fancy food in a family type atmosphere. However, the new place sounds very promising.
