GREEK RESTAURANT IN BROOKLYN

We are looking for a really good Greek Restaurant in Brooklyn. Visiting friends love Greek food. Nice setting a plus.

I have heard good things about AGNANTI and ELIA in Bay Ridge . Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Yasou, the best Greek taverna in Brooklyn, and maybe all of New York has been on Emmons Avenue for several years. Their fresh fish cannot be beat, including out of the tank Lobster and local fish off the Sheepshead Bay boats. My uncle, from Greece says this is just like home. It is not where Pips was, that is now an upscale steak restaurant called American steaks. There is also a hip sushi place on the row, with Randazzo's at one end of the block and Baku, a Russian nightclub at the end across from Lundy's. And to those who haven't been to the Bay in a while, Lundy's now offers Greek specials too.

Does anyone happen to know whether Yasou (Brooklyn) has a website or menu online? Today is my birthday and I wanted to go there with my family. I've been there once before and really liked it, but wanted to review the menu again. Thank you!

In answer to your post a couple of days ago on what to order: it's been a few months since I've been to Agnanti but I posted awhile back when it was fresh in memory, here's the link:http://www.chowhound.com/topics/show/...

Thanks for the tip. We have often walked by going to RANDAZZO'S. We will have to try it soon.

We absolutely love RADAZZO'S for seafood.

Their sauce, sweet, medium, or hot is amazing, the best I have ever tasted.

Anything fried is delicious. Shrimp, scallops, calamari, especially Soft Shell Crab in season, and Scallops areerfectly cooked and served with their amazing sauce.

The Lobster Fra Diavola is absolutely scrumptious and at $32.50 a real bargain, enough for two people. A 1 1/2 lb lobster sauteed in their wonderful garlicky spicy sauce and topped with shrimp, clams and mussels. The Shrimp Fra Diavola is equally good. Order an extra side of linguini, as the digsh only comes with one.

I dont agree. They are too overpriced for "eh" food.

I cannot remember the name, but I had a really fantastic meal at the new Greek restaurant just off the corner of Emmons and Ocean Avenue, across the street from Lundy's in Sheepshead Bay. Everything was fresh, great service, fairly priced. A really wonderful family run joint. The place was full with Greek families on a weeknight.

It's called Yasou and my boyfriend and I ended up there unexpectedly on New Years Eve and had a wonderful dinner and a great time with the staff and a 1/2 Greek 1/2 assorted Brooklynites crowd. The appetizers and lamb were out of this world. We'll be back for the fish soon.

AGNANTI and ELIA are rated 27 and 26 in the new ZAGAT. I have found that restaurants rated above 22 are usually excellent.

Are these just local Bay Ridge places, or should they be destination restaurants? AGNANTI is a new brance of a perennial favorite is Asoria.

              What to order?

I have been to Elia but it was a long time ago. The food was very good, more upscale than taverna style. I think I had leg of lamb or something along those lines, and maybe a seafood appetizer. More Periyali than Uncle Nick's.

Has anyone been to ELIA in Bay Ridge? It gets high marks and sounds good.

Agnanti in Bay Ridge is wonderful and inexpensive. Try the house special rooster with pasta (I think it was at the top of the menu somewhere...), it was absolutely heavenly.

I would second Agnanti- but make a reservation. Very good moderate prices, bustling. I live in Astoria, but was invited down there for dinner, and enjoyed it very much. We had sardines, a lamb stew, a whole grilled fish (porgy perhaps?) and several mezze and this was pelnty for 5 big eaters. Well prepared simple and fresh.

And I "third" Agnanti - though I can only speak for the Astoria location.
