I am bringing my family for a two day visit to san diego. we will be hitting legoland(i hate lines), and the zoo. We are looking for a great place for breakfast, as well as a good seafood/sushi/oyster bar restaurat. We are staying one day downtown, and another in La Jolla. Thanks for the help for a boston boy

  1. I like Nobu on Hwy 101 in Encintas - in between Legoland and La Jolla for sushi. If you can request Ike as your sushi chef / itamae.
The greatest sushi experience I have had so far has been at Sushi Ota in Pacific Beach, but beware it gets packed.
However I think the Fish Market Downtown best fits your request. Even though it is a chain -- the sushi bar inside is my personal favorite.

For breakfast, you really cant go wrong with The Mission in Ocean Beach.

    1. Go to Kaito Restaurant in Encinitas for sushi, it's much better than Nobu, no rush, superior fish, and Morita-san is very approachable.
      See my recent review here:

Or if you are up for Japanese Izakaya check out this review of Yumeya on coast hwy in Encinitas.

      1. Depends on where you're staying in La Jolla.

If you're staying in the "downtown" part, which is by the coast, then there are a number of good places for breakfast. Harry's Coffee Shop and the Cottage are places I like.

On the other hand, if you're in the Golden Triangle (which is by the freeway), your options are fewer. It's mostly chain places in that area. There is a popular breakfast spot called Le Peep on Towne Center Drive. It's not bad for what it is.
