Thai Steak?

Civil Bear said:

"I am actually sorry and a bit surprised to see Hua Hin go. We tried it about four times and never encountered any problems with grime or funny smells, and we loved just about everything we tried. Plus, it was the only place I knew where you could get a nice rib eye or t-bone marinated in Thai spices.

Does anyone know if there any other Thai places in the Bay Area where you can get a full-on steak?"

It's been a couple years since my last visit to Cha Am in Vallejo, but at the time, one of its most popular dishes was a steak prepared in that style. The Cha Am in Berkeley was under the same ownership at one time, maybe it has the dish too.

  1. suriya in the mission often has a steak on special. it has been a long time since i've eaten there, but i remember a steak rubbed all over with ground coriander seeds, served with a mountain of garlicky pea shoots.

I've had the steak at Suriya as a special within the last year. It was ok, but nothing I would go out of my way for, and sadly, I don't remember any pea shoots....

    2. Since Phuping Thai closed, I haven't seen the "rib eye steak" salad ("Crying Tiger") or plate anywhere else. Well, actually, there's a place on San Pablo Ave in Richmond that I took out from 6-9 months ago. After ordering off the menu, I noticed a steak special posted across the room. Haven't tried it.

A bit of Googling triangulates that to:
Sawad Dee Thai Restaurant, 12200 San Pablo Ave., Richmond (between MacDonald and Barrett)
