Where to go for a wedding shower in Long Beach (between South Bay and South OC)
Hello all,
I've been tasked with finding a location for a wedding shower which will take place the Friday after Thanksgiving. 2 places were recommended to me: Spaghettini in Seal Beach (closed for lunch that day)and Maggiano's at South Coast Plaza. This location scares me as it's too close to the mall and traffic and parking will be horrible that day.
I called Park Ave in Stanton and it looks promising. The only hesitation I have is it's location; From what I've read on Chowhound the area is pretty spotty and I'm hesitating having people from all over drive to a run-down area (don't want the future MIL to have any reason to not think favorably of the bride or her family.) Is the area really that crappy?
We're trying to keep the price low, $15-$20 a head which further compounds things. Knowing this I called a couple of places that if money were no object I believe would do a nice wedding shower. I called Chat Noir and they are no longer open for lunch they said, and I called Pinot Provence and they're at about $100 a head!
I'm looking for nice, not too spendy, not mall-adjacent places that aren't too complicated to direct people to. All will be travelling the 5 or 405 so someplace freeway handy would be perfect.
Also, if it's a salient point the bride-to-be is about 24.
Any suggestions?

Well Shenandoah at the Arbor it is. We went there last week for lunch and it is perfect. Freeway close, shower-ish atmosphere (if that's a word), and affordable. I hope the weather cooperates so we can sit on the patio under the enormous mulberry(?) tree. Spent $58 at the shop next door which was about 4 times more than lunch.
Thank you so much for the suggestion. It is perfect.

I went to a nice holiday party at Walt's Wharf in Seal Beach once. They appear to be able to accomodate groups for $20.
The location is also nice and allows for a stroll down the pier or along the water before or after lunch.

I was going to suggest Lasher's, too. Since that seems not to be an option, try Shenandoah on Los Alamitos Blvd. in Los Alamitos (Long Beach adjacent; convenient to the 605) You might also try Tantalum in Marina Pacifica, or that cute little Italian place on Broadway, La Peracola (or something like that - had a great meal there a week or two ago).

My wife and I have hosted held a couple of private parties, including a Baby Shower, at Lasher's in Long Beach. For lunch, the pricing should not be that far off your mark. It is a GREAT room, converted old California Craftsman style house... really ideal for that type of event... and the food is also really, really good. Killer, and I mean KICK ASS clam chowder.
Lasher's is in Long Beach at Broadway and Newport (one block from Redondo). VERY CHARMING place - MIL should approve.

I believe there is separate valet over at the Maggianos in South Coast (separate from mall valet), so that would solve parking there.
Yes, Stanton is THAT uncool. I'm always floored when I realize how much the owner must be saving in rent. It's not dangerous, per se, but more underdeveloped than say Irvine. Does that help?

Private Room at Morton's across from SCP , Valet(3-), ask for Joel , Lunch Mgr. Lunch is very good and can probably be done for around 30- per person or less.
Examples: Fabulous Hamburger 14-, Giant Shrimp Cocktail 15-, Crab Cakes 12- ea, Nice large Salads 10-15, Chicken Picatta 17-, French Onion Soup 7- ,most of these items are so large they are a meal so your cost could even be lower than I est.
