Free shipping on Bonny Doon
The previous post about ice wine got me thinking about Bonny Doon's "vin de glaciere."
I went on the website, and they're offering free shipping for a limited time on orders over $99.
What other Bonny Doon wines do people like? I'm wondering if the rieslings and "rhonefandels" are worth a try.
Also, is $17 for the "ice wine" standard, or should I just shop around locally for a lower price?

Malvasia Bianca...mmm
I don't think that they make it anymore, though...
Gotta agree about the Vin Gris de Cigare, awesome rose value.

re: bogie
The malvasia is the Ca del Solo Big House White, one of the wines that was recently sold to The Wine Group.

re: Ed Dibble
I was confused. The real story is, "the Malvasia will definitely cease production." Probably the new owners need the grapes to ramp up production of the Big House.

Everything Bonny Doon makes is a star in its price range. Critique of Pure Riesling is better than anything not from Alsace, and the cheaper Pacific Rim is pretty good too. Their Vin Gris de Cigare is the best rose made in the US as well; nothing beats it on a hot day. Their California versions of Chateauneuf-de-Pape, Le Cigare Volante and especially Old Telegram are wonderful. The Big House wines are a great bargain for general swilling. But the special stuff are the DEWN wines -- some good, some great, some, uh, "interesting".
They're well outside the normal parameters of California wine, which is why I like them -- I don't really LIKE California wine much. Plus, they're crazy, which is a bonus in this world of "classier than thou" scrolley-typeface wine.
