International Buffet and Kam Man review (LONG)
First off, let me extend a THANK YOU to Galleygirl (good to see you back in circulation also!) for the directions to Kam Man. I have been here a few times but have never been driving.
I decided to take a road trip to the International Buffet and Kam Man with my chowpups. Before we got out of the car I needed to have a serious debriefing about etiquette upon entering the store (Yelling "aw Gross!" is not okay).
We went for dinner first. I have to say that for the price ($68 for 1 adult, 4 kids (14-4)) you couldn't beat it. However, I am typically not fond of buffets because I find the food to be mediocre and not terribly hot. My pups loved the buffet. I could envision myself only eating at places like this in the future as I will soon have 4 starving young men on my hands. Oldest pup (soon to be a hound) loved the octopus and other offerings. The seafood variations were good but you needed to keep your eye on when the servers were putting out the trays, to get at it quickly. They had green lipped mussels in black bean sauce which probably would have been great if they were hot (they were not). Sesame buns were very good, not greasy at all. Peking duck with crepes, prime rib, sushi, mac and cheese...and tons of icecream choices!
I filled up predominately on the stir fried bok choi and mussles but missed the whole tilapia.
Would I go back? Yes with my kids but not with adults unless I was under duress. I love the Pho place in the plaza and would prefer to eat there but with kids, you cannot beat the selection and ability to try just about anything (and for the unadventurous youngest pup, white rice and jello...couldn't get him to try the hotdogs wrapped in bacon, two of his favorites but apparently not together!).
Kam Man~fantastic asian store...just wish I didn't have to travel 40 minutes to get there! My oldest tried to convince me to buy a fertilized duck egg but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Nice pieces of pork belly, pork neck bones (I use for red sauce) and we even saw a snapping turtle along with all of the other sea creatures for sale. Fantastic produce and great prices.
