Crab pretzel in DC/NoVA

Hi everyone--

I had no problem finding a crab pretzel (big hot pretzel topped w/crab dip, melted cheese, and Old Bay) in Baltimore and its 'burbs, but where can I find one in the DC/NoVa area? Craving one as we speak...

  1. I've never heard of this. Where in Baltimore is this available?

I must say my first thought is to be repulsed and a bit puzzled by the notion. Repulsed in that I find seafood and cheese to usually be a difficult combination, and puzzled in that crabmeat is so expensive, I can't imagine covering it up with melted cheese.

The Silver Spring Mining Company in Hunt Valley probably has one of the best examples. Unfortunately, Phillips has begun selling a poor version with a very small amount of crab dip on a giant pretzel to restaurants, and many places in the Baltimore area offer this version, rather than using a good soft pretzel topped with good crab dip.

    2. I've had crab pretzels at Bateman's and Rocky Run in Baltimore. I'm not a seafood person AT ALL, but for some reason, I absolutely love crab pretzels. Rocky Run's version is quite delicious. For under $10, you can get a crab appetizer on a tasty pretzel that feeds at least three or four people.

But I'm looking for something closer to where I live. I no longer have any reason to go up to Baltimore (read: no longer with the boyfriend who lives in Baltimore), so I spend all my time in DC and NoVA.

It's been a couple of years, but I had a darn good crab pretzel at DuClaw in Bowie..
