The Dresden is not to be missed for it's decor -- it's like stepping into a 1960's swinging movie -- and the drinks are great, but best advise is order simply. The food is not the draw -- it's the atmosphere.

I agree the atmosphere is definitely the draw, but I (surprsingly) had a great prime rib dinner there last month.

Also Marty & Elayne playing & singing in the bar. Parodied for several years on Saturday Night Live.

The Dresden is one of my favorite spots in L.A.
I agree that the food is not the draw (I do remember enjoying the french onion soup), but you should experience the classic old Los Angeles vibe for sure. The service is definitely good too, old union guys who have been there since the beginning.
For some tasty foods, there's a little french place just down the street. I can't remember the name, but the bakery is amazing and the champagne cocktails are delicious.

What everyone said, however...this week I had very good liver and onions with a baked potato. The salad was not too amazing and the garlic break was just ok, but the entre was very good

The Dresden is an institution. It's been around since the 40's, and I don't think the menu has changed much. As you can see from the above posts, the meat and potato-type dishes are your best bet. But it really is about Old Hollywood style. And Marty and Elaine are a hoot.
