Where can I find really good PEANUT BUTTER ICE CREAM?

Anywhere in the 213, 626, 818 or 310 area.

Thanks very much in advance.

  1. I saw some in Surfas in Culver City yesterday. Freezer wall to the left as you enter the store, maybe 2nd or 3rd door.

    1. I wanna know too! I love Peanut butter ice cream and shakes.

      1. I don't know how good this is compared to others, but if you're looking for a peanut butter ice cream at odd hours, Ben and Jerry's makes one with peanut butter cups. I found it at a Ralph's in Torrance, I think...

        1. And Cold Stone Creamery will add Reese's to its sweet cream ice cream.

          1. Haven't found any on the west coast except for Maggie Moo's which is waxy-tasting and dreadful. Bert n' Rocky's in Upland and Claremont has some flavors, once in a while, with a peanut butter base. Ralph's sells a cheap store-brand ice cream called Deluxe and their Butterfinger ice Cream made into a milkshake will quench a craving for PB Ice Cream.

Best to just fold some peanut butter into your favorite vanilla ice cream, probably. Or head to Connal's Burgers in Pasadena for a Peanut Butter (or PB and Banana) shake. Yummy.

            1. Mashti Malone's has a peanut butter cup (PB ice cream with PB cups) ice cream throughout the year. My scoops always come in shake form along with Turkish coffee ice cream.

Peanut Butter Cup Ice cream and Peanut Butter Ice Cream are two very different things! You just don't find PEANUT BUTTER ice cream on the west coast. And the best Peanut Butter CUP ice cream is with the cups in VANILLA ice cream, not PB.

                1. re: jackattack

Yeah, I'm looking for peanut butter ice cream (not ice cream mixed with peanut butter).

                  1. re: ipsedixit

hhmmm. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen PB ice cream... It sure does sound delicious! Maybe even with swirls of jelly...

              2. Scoops on Heliotrope had peanut butter ice cream this weekend. Well, technically it was peanut butter chai but the chai aspect was just a sort of spicy cinamony-clovey hint to the peanut butter and it worked really nicely.

The Mashti Malone peanut butter cup ice cream is peanut butter ice cream with chocolate pieces in it. Sometimes, there are wide streaks of real peanut butter in the ice cream. The Scoops version was more uniform without detectable streaks of peanut butter but no interference from chocolate either.

All in all, I liked the Scoops version better.

Trader Joe's carries Julies Organic Ice Cream, and she has a half-decent peanut butter with a fudge whirl in it.

Monte Carlo deli on Magnolia in Burbank scoops Villa Rosa Gelato, and the peanut butter flavor is sort of a vanilla that's full of finely crushed peanuts.

                2. If you're ever in San Diego, try Moo Time (mootime.com). They have the best peanut butter ice cream I've ever tried. + reese peanut butter cups + banana :)

                  1. If I remember correctly, Cafe 50s in Sherman Oaks on Van Nuys does a peanut butter shake that made me happy, but I don't think it's exactly what you're looking for.

                    1. I remember when I was a kid that Baskin-Robbins sold peanut butter ice cream. Don't know if they still do. I never tried it, but I remember all the other kids were obsessed with it.

                      1. We had some great peanut butter ice cream (without chocolate chips, etc.) at the LA County Fair made by Dr. Bob. www.drbobsicecream.com On his website he says it has vanilla chunks but as I recall it was pretty peanuty and not very chunky.

                        1. I'm a little late to the party, but I noticed Delicieuse makes a peanut butter ice cream and they make excellent ice cream. I found several of their flavors at Surfas, but don't recall seeing the peanut butter flavor.

                          1. My peanut butter fanatic BF and I just had a fantastic peanur butter and malt shake at Ocean Diner in Hermosa Beach on Aviation. You can get it without the malt. I was only able to get two spoon fulls because the peanut butter bear devoured it.

                            1. if you don't have any luck with ice cream, you might want to try peanut butter gelato - it's available in gelato shops sometimes. personally, i prefer gelato to ice cream anyway, and pb just happens to be my favorite flavor.

[btw, if you're ever down in the north county san diego area, 'bubby's gelato' on the 101 in encinitas has some of the best pb gelato i've ever tasted.]

I too prefer gelato over ice cream.
                                What luck!
I'll be dropping off a friend at the ANA Academy in San Diego on Monday. I'm not familiar with the area. Is Bubby's gelato around that area?

it really is your lucky day :)

encinitas is about 10 miles south of carlsbad [where you'll be]. definitely worth the extra drive time.

they don't always have peanut butter [you might want to call & check first], but all the flavors i've tried there have been fantastic.

                              2. You should try Golden Spoon's peanut butter frozen yogurt. It's amazing. Try swirled with strawberry.

ugh. no offense, but personally i think their yogurt is vile. it's obnoxiously sweet [not surprising when you consider that it contains sugar, corn syrup AND maltodextrin], and has a very artificial/chemical taste.

i'm a peanut butter fiend, and therefore somewhat of a purist, so i usually prefer to eat it on its own...but if i ever combine it with something it's either chocolate or vanilla. but your flavor combo is interesting...sort of a frozen pb & j :)

you might not want to try bubby's gelato...it'll ruin you for golden spoon forever.

I really started eating Golden Spoon when I joined Weight Watchers. At one point for a mini, it's amazing to me. I think the flavors are very rich and non-cloying. Faves are cookies & cream, mounds bar, vanilla malt and anything mint.
