Chinese Doughnut / Greasy American

I've noticed lots of places around town where you can get doughnuts / other chinese baked goods, chinese food and cheap american dishes (hamburgers, bacon + eggs etc.). I think that one near Hyde and California will deep fry hot dogs for you. Has anyone ever eaten at any of these places? Should I steer clear or are these places somehow justified.
