Jar: how far in advance for reservations?
Hi there.. Looking forward to my first time at Jar on the third weekend of October, for our anniversary. How far in advance ought I make the reservation by phone? I ask, because sometimes I've found that if one makes reservations (anywhere) too far in advance, said reservations can get 'misplaced' inexplicably. Is three weeks in advance OK? Really looking forward to the steak and desserts there, which I understand are essential. Also wondering if their menu will change soon, reflecting seasonal changes. Thanks!

Generally there is little wait for reservations, except for Saturday night. Yet, why not go ahead and make your reservation through Open Table dot com, and they thus have it already on the computer, and less the chance of human error when you arrive.
Menus do change seasonally, yet the staples remain throughout the year, such as the pot roast, and hopefully for you, the butterscotch or chocolate puddings!›3 Replies-

re: carter
I think Carter's advice is sound. But I will say the one time I ate at Jar, they did misplace our reservation (I didn't make it but I don't think it was through Open Table). They were able to sit us in the bar area which was okay, but I did feel a bit exiled.
The real lesson....confirm a day or two before you go.

re: carter
A couple months ago I made reservations at Jar for a Saturday night using Open Table. I was able to get 9:00 pm and the reservation was very last minute - I think I made it the day before. Maybe we lucked out. I might have preferred 8:00 but at least I got an acceptable time and we got a decent table. If they have the purple yams with creme fraiche, don't miss it. And the butterscotch pudding.
