New "Last Post" headers on right side

ChowFun_derek Sep 21, 2006 03:28 PM

I thought, and was hoping that if I clicked on this last post header I would be able to go DIRECTLY to that post, rather than to the posters general postings...as it stands now one still has to scroll and scroll and scroll down to get to the last post...obviously I want to get there quicker...what do others' think about this?

Agree with you Derek, still using the Post My Reply button to get to the end, hoping the new post isn't buried somewhere in the middle on long threads.

Use the "End" key to get to the last post and scroll up a half a page. Look below your "Home" key. It works great, especially for those threads with 200 plus replies. As for the whole right side thing with the "new" posts, I'm still getting used to it. It's just day one. So far, I'm not thrilled that my eyes have to dart across the page everytime. Back and forth, back and forth.
Preferred it *all* on the left side. It's day one, what's more to say.

That doesn't work when the new posts are in the middle of a 100-post thread.

They've previously announced that they're working on a better navigation method for long threads.

Thats why I suggested being able to go directly to the new post or posts from the last post header...but if they are ONLY the last post, and not ALL the new posts that wouldn't work....not an easy process getting a board to fit the needs of its' constitiuents!

Robert you're right about that. When the replies are in the middle of the thread you and I presently have the wondrous task of scrolling (forever) and relying on the ability of our tired eyes to discern the white background from a "washed-out-peach-colored and almost-white" background (representing unread replies). Man, I hope they change their color palette. There's got to be something better.

You might try adjusting the colors on your display. On my home computer, the colors resemble the ones you described, but on my work computer, the new replies are distinctly yellow and stand out much better, so it's not completely a function of the site design.

I find the contrast pretty good on a CRT, but fairly subtle on an LCD.

I thought that might be one explanation, but I'm using LCD both places.

I can attest to the fact that the color differences are very subtle on a LCD.
I'll deal with it for now I suppose. /o-o\

Am I alone in wishing the last post were listed under the main heading? It's easier for me to see everything when it's on top of each other, rather than having to scan between right and left sides of the page.

Hey, at least we have both the first and the last post authors -- that's a huge improvement.

Yes it is. Thanks very much to the site techs from someone who had requested that. Going directly to the post would be nice, but less of an issue for me personally as when I know who it is I should still be able to find it pretty readily in the 100 post threads with a search. Again, many thanks!
