Gramercy Tavern vs. Union Square Cafe

nadiav Sep 21, 2006 11:22 AM

Want to go out for a birthday dinner with my husband. Haven't been to either Union Square Cafe or Gramercy Tavern...thought it was about time to visit one of the classics. Which is better and why?

Gramercy Tavern. Do a search as this exact topic has been discussed ad nauseum.

I much prefer Gramercy Tavern as well--the rooms are lovely--especially in the fall and winter--the service is generally better, and the menu and food are superior. While the food and service at USC are fine, they can't hold a candle to GT, IMO. Enjoy.

I agree - I love the rooms at Gramercy Tavern - the flowers are always incredible.

Union Sq. Cafe, without a doubt.

I think there is a time and place for both, but Gramercy wins for me by a slight notch -- because of decor. The food at Union Square Cafe is great, no dispute on that, its just that Gramercy tends to supplement the same decent quality with a solid ambient atmosphere with their great rooms, flower decorations, and fun artwork.
