Good Dining at the Six House
Matt Rossi pours a nice drink at the Six House in South Boston, but don't overlook the food. They have expanded their menu and have some very nice choices. The Surf & Turf comes with baked stuffed shrimp and your choice of either steak, lamb or turky tips. I went with the turky tips which were served in a spicy BBQ sauce and they were pefect, tender and moist. Has anyone else enjoyed a meal here?

My impression of the Six House was that it was somewhat yuppified South Boston, a classic upscale replacement of a scary bucket-o'-blood (Triple O's, a Whitey Bulger hangout) by a fresh new pub with good beer and decent food. I was really surprised to read about the murder there.

That part of the Lower End of Southie still has its problems. Developers are trying to yuppify it, but it's still mostly a gritty area. I went to The Quiet Man across the street awhile back and it is as far away from upscale as you can get (great tips, though, and our server was very friendly). I'm guessing that the Six House still gets a tough element at times, too, even though it is trying to cater to a more upscale crowd.

Yeah their burgers are excellent, as is the grilled chicken sandwich. Everything I've had there has been really good, actually.

re: shfrey
For steak tips I'd go across the street to the Quiet Man.
BTW, went to the New Bridge on sunday for the first time.
Tips were overcooked (but still juicy.) Service was pleasant.
Less meat and one less side order for the QM price.
Fine if you're around Chelsea but I'll stay in the city for the QM.-

The sale of the Quiet Man has fallen through so we can still enjoy the steak tips. On the subject of the 6 House, I would like to note that my original post is dated SEPTEMBER OF 2006. While I have asked the moderators to remove the post they refused, stating it would be unfair to other posters. Hopefully, they will at least let this post remain.

re: Pegmeister
I suppose the Six House could be one of many places where the late night crowd is really different from the dinner hour crowd, still possibly worth checking out even if you weren't disposed to visit when it was purely a nightclub or drinking scene. I'm thinking of Bricco on weekends, dbar, 33, Mantra. As recently as a few days ago, it was still on my list of places to try.
