Headed to Vegas for a Conference next week.
Ping Pang Pong (GoldCoast Hotel)is one of my favorite Strip area Chinese Restaurants. Heard they were now serving dim sum daily.
Has anyone tried it? Any other dim sum recs for Vegas?

  1. You might want to try Chang's Hong Kong Cuisine for dim sum. It's located at 4670 S. Decatur.

do they have set hours for the dim sum ...all day ? best time/day to go ? i drive by there all the time - didn't know they had good dim sum ( i assume it's good since you suggest it be tried...yes ? )

My confession -- I've never eaten at Chang's. It has been recommended by many other Chowhounds, though.

    2. I have tried almost every Dim Sum location in Vegas, and my favorite by far is Orchids Garden on W. Sahara. It is definately the most authentic if you are used to New York/LA/San Fran type Dim Sum. They serve Dim Sum Daily until 3pm.

      1. I've had dim sum at Cathay House, Orchids Garden, and Chang's of Hong Kong in my most recent LV trips. I'd say it's a tossup between Cathay House and Chang's of Hong Kong having the best dim sum. I was not impressed with the dim sum at Orchids Garden, although I ate there solo, so I was only able to order 4 items. Might have to go back with other people next time to sample more of the selections.

Dim sum is typically a brunch-type of meal, served until 2PM or 3PM at most places, so I'm surprised to hear it being served at Ping Pang Pong, which has hours of 5PM to 3AM. If dim sum is served, I wouldn't be surprised if you have to order it from the menu. I wouldn't expect there to be cart service like at the other dim sum places.

i just ate at orchids this weekend - i live in san gabriel valley yet spend alot of time in vegas - i've eaten at most of the dim sum places in sgv. i went to orchids with a chinese woman that's been to all the dum sum places in las vegas - i was impressed with the place - we ordered alot yet only cost $30 - i will go again - since i can walk to changs from my condo, i will try it this weekend

ate at changs today around 11:30 ...it was very busy - hard to find a parking spot...but got a table with SO ( chinese woman ) - we were lucky because as we were leaving there were at least 20 people waiting to be seated.

what surprised me -a s busy as they were, with limited exception, the food was warm to outright cold - i noticed alot of steam coming up in the carts so it didn't make much sense. also, we were seated near the kitchen and on one occassion, the cart came straight out of the kitchen and we had 1st crack at the offerings - had rice noodles with shrimp from that cart and it was warm at best...oh well.

overall, i think orchids is better but i think it might be cheaper at changs...items were either $1.85, $2.50 or $3.75 - we did not get any $3.75 items - most were at $2.50. we bought more at orchids last week, but this bill was only $20 ( we had tea and i had one diet coke )

i ate at cathay house some time ago - i will be back next week so i will probably try them next week and report back - so far, i think you will do fine at either orchids or chang's but my SO and i agreed that we thought orchids food was more flavorful, definitely warmer but it might be a little more $$$

        2. Ping Pang Pong serves Dim Sum from 10AM to 3PM. They just started serving and I havent had it yet. If I go, I will post.

          1. Just returned from my week in Vegas...never made it to Ping PANG Pong for Dim Sum. Did enjoy a wonderful dinner there though. Had the tea smoked duck with pancakes, the lobster w/ black bean sauce and the seafood pan friend noodles. Everthing was top notch.
Did try Cathay House for Dim Sum..based on recs. from fellow Chowhound'ers. It was terrific...I will definitely go back.
Everything was steaming Hot, flavorful and the Variety for a weekday lunch was plentiful. The patron were also lined up out the door waiting to get in. What a wonderful find.

            1. Went to both Ping Pang Pong and Cathay House for dim sum this weekend. Ping Pang Pong was a bit disappointing....not that much selection, and things seemed a bit warmed over (and this was about 11, so relatively early). There was a surprising lack of dumpling oriented items. Service was a bit lackluster as well. Cathay House, where we've been before a number of times, was clearly superior in terms of variety, speed of carts coming around, and service. As always on the weekends, it is advisable to get there early.

              1. For those who have had the dim sum there, I've heard they serve the xiao long bao, or soup dumplings. This is the first I've heard of this dish being served in Las Vegas.

How were they there? Are there any other places that serve them?

                1. Hi,

Does anyone know the address of Cathay House, Orchids Garden and Changs? Going to add them to the list of places to try for dim sum in Vegas, thanks!
