Just ate this week at the Staghorn Steakhouse on 36th St between 8th and 9th. Had a great porterhouse for 2, great sides, good wine list. Cool interior in an unexpected place. I would definitely go back.

Keens. The pub room by the fire. Porter-house or the mutton chop.

Seven is pretty good for New American.
KunJip for Korean. Maru for drinks in K-Town

not to be picky, but I would classify Seven as simply "American". There's nothing "New" about the food there. "New American" food is typically American food with a "French-like" twst, i.e., The Modern, Per Se, etc.

That being said...it is a good option for a casual but decent pre-show dinner.

I think the French part is overly narrow. When I think of New American I think of traditional dishes prepared with both European and Asian influences along with artisinal ingredients. You'll also find fusiony choices which are variations on dishes from other cuisines.

ok, I'll buy that. That being said...Seven is definitely not New American.

You might enjoy this thread about an artisinal dish name generator. When you call it up press the refresh key to keep generating names.

            Keen's Chophouse is good - 72 West 36th Street.

The Who! korean town is right there. I love grilling raw meat over at Won Jo. They use real hot coals and not gas. Plus the Seafood pancake is delicious!
