good eats in/around BOCA RATON
Love Calypso in Pompano. Excellent seafood. Very casual but it's not cheap, it's moderate. I have to agree about Kyogin. They give you a lot of options on their buffet, but there's zero atmosphere. It's like a diner inside. They do have cooked food as well, so you could still eat there and avoid sushi - plus they have some cooked sushi roll options.
I have to add this about Blue Moon Fish Co. I love that place. If you CAN get out for lunch, they have a 2 for 1 special. Any entree, appetizer, dessert, etc... BOGOF. Excellent deal.
Also, their Sunday brunch is awesome. It's $30 pp in Ft. Lauderdale. At their Coral Springs location it's $20. Another excellent deal. All small plates, so you can try many different things. And DO get their volcano chocolate dessert.
thanks for all these recs- keep them coming if any new thoughts! I doubt we'll eat breakfast/lunch out much though, mostly dinners (staying with family who live on country club property- so stick to early meals there)
Also, I do LOVE sushi, but pregnant, so unfortunately not eating any raw fish these days. So, doubtful we'll be hitting those places.
Forgot to add---
Make a reservation at the BLUE MOON FISH CO. in Ft Lauderdale- ON the Intracoastal----
FOOD is TERRIFIC--almost too pretty to eat- Diverse menu, GREAT service-Get a table outside and watch the boats go by.
Expensive but WELL worth it....some of the best seafood in the ares outside of The Sunfish Grill ( which is also fabulous! )...
We live in Boca and if you're willing to drive there's a lot to choose from. First off, I agree with a lot of the choices above (Cay Da, Cucina d' Angelo, Tom Sawyer's for breakfast) but I'm not a fan of Kyojin. Most everyone on this board loves them but their quality is uneven and at best it's "good for the price."
If you like sushi, Bluefin Sushi on Yamato is very good and I would also recommend Daimatsu Sushi in the Royal Palm Plaza. If you like Thai and Sushi, try Thai Kimono on Federal at Hillsboro in Deerfield Beach. The food is very good and the people who work there are great.
For Italian in Boca try Saporissimo (366 E. Palmetto Park Road east of Federal.) This is a real favorite. It's a little pricey but it's the best Tuscan-style dining around.
Here are some other good choices in the area:
Sunfish Grill - Pompano (http://www.sunfishgrill.com/
)Calypso Restaurant - Pompano (http://www.calypsorestaurant.com
)32 East - Delray Beach (http://www.32east.com
)Catfish Dewey's - Oakland Park (http://www.catfishdeweys.com)Southern... all-you-can-eat cooking featuring catfish, fried oysters, crawfish, etc.
There's so much more, but this should give you a good start. Good luck.
If you enjoy Vietnames food, I suggest CAY DA. It is on Federal Highway north of Yamato Rd. The address is 7400 and is in the right hand corner of the Boca Colony Shoppes.I suggest too that you order the crepe. It isn't like any crepe you have ever had and you will love it either with chicken or shrimp.
If you like Japanese food, I suggest a ride to the southwest corner of Sunrise Blvd and University Dr. There you will find a really good Japanese restaurant named, Japan Inn. Good food. Fair price.
I second the JB's nomination. It is one of my favorite south florida restaurants, with great food and a beautiful atmosphere.
Also I highly recommend Cucina d' Angelo: http://www.cucinadangelo.com/index2.html. They have probably the best Italian I've experienced. Amazing lobster ravioli with a sauce that has every bit of lobster essence. All of the dishes we've had there are wonderful.
For a casual breakfast I recommend Tom Sawyer's Diner (http://www.demandy.com/content/view/3...). The best country-style breakfasts, the BEST country fried steak and gravy. Wonderful selection, nice atmosphere, all wood inside.
Checkout demandy.com for my other Palm Beach County reviews, if you're interested.
I live near Boca and I just went to MOrton's tonight. Wonderful. Very expensive, but worth it and there will be leftovers. :D
I heard the Shore restaurant on Delray Beach (Atlantic & A1A) is really good. My mom and sister went there and flipped out, and my sister goes there regularly.
JB's on the Beach in Deerfield, on A1A is really good for lunch or dinner, you can sit outside overlooking the ocean and it's just a great atmosphere. The entrees are not cheap, but it's very good food and good appetizers and a nice bar.
Kee Grill on Military, north of Clint Moore is really good, expensive, but they give you a lot of food. Great seafood.
Get their spinach Maria - er, assuming the spinach scare is over.
If you want great sushi and sashimi in a quiet astmosphere, with jazz and that zen feeling, go to Masamune in Deerfield Beach.
Forgot to tell you- IF You are into Sushi, In Boca is a place called Kygojin---on Powerline rd between Palmetto Park Rd and Glades in the Ross Shopping Center..
ALL you can eat Sushi, Sashimi, Roll, FRESH Tempura and crab legs etc. KNOWN for their FRESH sushi and sashima...
Amazing- Mid week prices are $17.95 and weekend is $19.95 pp
WELL WORTH it and Sooooooooooooooooo good.
