Milan for just a couple hours...

Gooseberry Sep 18, 2006 07:03 AM

Hi All,

I'm going to be in Milan for a stopover at the beginning of October, for only half a day (arriving Milan, leaving via Malpensa). Are there any stores where I can get GREAT mozzarella di bufala, preferably not a wild goose chase away from the train station or main piazza? In addition, a restaurant where I can get some pasta with white truffles (or am I a bit too early in the year)? I don't want a fancy place - just something non-touristy, a trattoria with decent, honest Italian food.

Thanks in advance...

You're going to be pressed for time, for sure. Previous posters have recommended Al Mercanti adjacent to Piazza del Duomo. It's very good and should fill your needs and desires.

When faced with a similar situation earlier in the month, folks recommended the store Peck to me. It's pretty great and is very close to the Duomo. I didn't check out their cheese counter closely, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't find something good there.

Also in the same area is the Casa del Formaggio (also owned by Peck?) which sounds promising, but I didn't get there myself so can't comment.

      Good luck and safe travels,
