Looking to buy bottarga in NYC

Benjamin68 Sep 18, 2006 02:55 AM

In the past I've bought mullet and tuna Bottarga at Buon Italia. I'm wondering if there's anywhere else in Manhattan to buy it as well. Thanks.

I noticed it at DiPalo's last weekend.

Di Palo's is about $23 for 4 oz, same thing at D&D is about $125. Not sure turnover matters as mentioned below, as it is vacuum packed.

The International Market (or whatever it's called) on 9th and 40th may have it, too, but while it might annoy my Greek ancestors, I'd sooner go to DiPalo's - all else being equal, I'm sure their turnover is much higher.

Do they? All I could find was a jar of 25% bottarga and 75% tomato and other seasonings.

Eataly has it. The guy at the fish counter has it behind the counter. You have to ask him.

Thanks! When I asked the fish counter man, he didn't know what bottarga was. The next day, I went there again and asked another guy, who gave me what they had. So I bought four packs. Ate one pack already. :)

How much were they? Was each pack a full "lobe"? Thanks!
