Diet Coke and Mentos

Pei Sep 12, 2006 07:01 PM

You mean you haven't seen the You Tube video of Diet Coke and mentos?!? These guys were featured on The Today Show awhile back. They imitating the choreography of the Bellagio fountains in Vegas.

If the link doesn't work, go to www.youtube.com and search for Extreme Diet Coke. I don't usually watch stupid things on line, but this was worth it.

My son, typical teenaged boy that he is, saw this on mythbusters and was relentless until I broke down and bought him a 2litre of diet coke and a pack of mentos. We all breathlessly *uhm-hum* gathered aroung the driveway and watched as he (with dramatic flare) dropped the small orbs into the waiting diet coke. The explosion was so imediate and grand that it tood us all by complete surprise, this thing realy works! So well, in fact, that he was only able to drop one before heading for cover as the 10 ft. fountain of stickiness showered everyone within range, which was all of us! Myth Busted! Not!

My son (9) had 'good' results doing this too, now he keeps asking for more mentos and diet coke whenever one of his freinds come over. I wanted to be the 'kool aid mom' but I guess I'm the mentos mom instead!

      I've done it at home.
      Quite neat.

Mythbusters did a piece on this- it has something to do with the "pitting" unique to Mentos. Very cool.
