      not *exactly* a blog, but someone in homecooking recently pointed us to a message board where people are working out various recipes -- the hive focus on carnitas or corn or rajas . . . FABULOUS

      Translated Grandmothers and Rancho Gordo are fun too

        I'm the one that posted both the link to the Mouthfuls Food cooking projects and the Grandmother's link.

        The last 6 entries on my own blog - http://thediningdiva.typepad.com/the_... - are about Mexican cooking. (I have a graduate degree in Latin-American Studies, travel frequently in Mexico and have specific interests in folk art and Mexican cuisine

        )

        Kare-Raisu, how much Spanish do you know? I've got a couple more websites but they are in Spanish.

          I've actually been reading all your posts with extreme interest DiningDiva --as you had posted them. This, thanks to the link i noticed on Kirk's site. I must compliment you on your writing, you truly have a gift. I must also say you have crystallized my intent to take a trip there in the near future. Thank you for taking the time the record your experience -- it is a trully invaluable window into Mexico -- a country whose culture has become an obseession of mine.

          My Spanish is pretty limited --only restaurant lingo from working with a cook from Oaxaca who became a friend.

            Thank you, that's very kind of you.

            Do go to Mexico, it's not what most Americans think it is, especially if you get away from the border towns and/or beach resorts, although the Pacific coast resorts don't seem to be quite as hectic and overblown as those on the Yucatan. Perhaps an older crowd, I don't know.
