a substitution

cocktail recipie for 'Satan's Whiskers" is as follows:
3/4 oz gin
3/4 oz sweet vermouth
3/4 oz dry vermouth
1/2 oz orange juice
1/2 oz grande marnier
1 dash orange bitters

now, if I sub contreau for GM, how will it taste? I know it will be palatable, but will it be equivelent? or should i maybe sub half brandy half contreau? or should i just break down and buy some GM(never a bad thing to have around)? i know that any's an option, but what do you think is my best bet?

  1. I think there are so many other powerful flavours in this drink that u will be ok using cointreau. i'm sure u've had many cocktails with grand marnier substitutes and never known. i would say go for it.

    1. grand marnier is brandy based while cointreau is clear, definetly a difference.

absoulutly if u are sippin them straight up. but i highly doubt u could tell the difference in a cocktail like that.
