Pick up BBQ in Marin?

This was the only thread that I could find that was close, but does anyone have suggestions for a place where I can pick up some great pulled pork and ribs for a 10-person party in Marin? Frank's BBQ looks interesting, just wondering if there were any "must go to" places out there...

  1. Two years ago I tossed Frank's ribs right into the garbage can, not worth eating. This thread is old, but maybe folks recognize some of the players (Mr. Ribs, Scotty's, Apple) and can give us an update.

    1. I know of nothing in Marin that would qualify. If Frank's is the one that's in the Thursday morning Marin Farmers Market, it's not great. If it were me, I'd order and pick up from Memphis Minnies in the city. I've done that a few times for group lunches down the peninsula (I live in Marin).

        I do love Minnie's, but I am *trying* to stay as close to home as possible as I explore my new area. Mick, it looks like you had pointed to Jerome's in Petaluma a year ago, so I'll try there and give an update. Might follow Melanie's tip around then to get pulled pork at McNear's as well. Big BBQ day with a discerning crowd, so I'd rather hedge my bets.... Thanks for the help!

          I've heard that Jerome's has a new owner, so things may have changed. Would love to hear an update. Seems I read somewhere about the McNear's folks opening something in Marin, so some 'net searching might find something closer to home. If it's a really discerning crowd, well, then I would contract with Chef Mark Malicki to do a pulled pork with a whole smoked suckling pig for you. Finest I've put in my mouth, see recent posts.

            I read the page about Chef Mark Malicki but didn't find anything specifically about barbecue or your experience of his whole smoked suckling pig. More details and/or links appreciated...

      2. Is Star's BBQ still open in Sausalito? If so, they were pretty good last time I went (about 6 months ago). They're on Donahue, in the same complex as Best Buy. Don't know if they do pulled pork -- I've only tried the ribs, chicken and brisket.

        2. I looked for Star's a few weeks back, but no sign of it at the Marin City mall. Saylor's Landing on Harbor, across the lot from Fish. served a bbq pulled pork sandwich at lunch, maybe...
