Lunch between Torrance and the Airport

  • 8

Going to be in the area tomorrow, with a fair bit of time to kill. Is there anything really interesting that one might suggest. I guess my only criterion is that it is not ridiculously far from the 405.

Thanks for any ideas.

  1. Havana Mania - on Inglewood Ave. at Manhattan Beach Bl, just south of the I405 - great Cuban food.
Incredible Cafe - same corner as above. Downscale and clean joint with plenty of breakfast, Mexican, burger options and specials.
Ohana Hawaiian BBQ - chain outlet on Redondo Beach Bl. at Hawthorne Bl. Convenient Hawaiian unless you want to visit downtown Gardena.
Dijon Chicken - on Artesia Bl. about one block west of Inglewood Ave. Middle east style roasted chicken a la Zankou.
Amigo Taco - same lot as D.C. Good basic Mexican (not old school Cal-Mex).

We tried the chicken from the Dijon Chicken branch on Torrance Blvd. @ Hawthorne. It doesn't hold a candle to Zankou, and was dry and tasteless. Three of us lunching agreed that even though it's close to the office and delivers, never again.

      1. All you can eat Chinese buffet with sushi, peel & eat shrimp, mussels and more. $6.99/person for lunch.

        1. Uhm... incredible cafe is not incredible. Nothing special.

I think the clear winner is Al Noor in Lawndale. It's Pakistani/Indian and absoulutly amazing. Not to mention is is right off the 405.

Get a rice, chicken or paneer tikka massala, and some plain naan, and feast away! if you have room, try a sweet lassi.

This is my favorite restaurant. I think you'll enjoy it!

YC, thanks for reminding me of Al Watan, (Pakistani) on Inglewood between Rosecrans and El Segundo.
Shafaa on Hawthorne Bl. serves Turkish/middle east type food, so it might qualify as 'interesting'.
In the same stretch of Hawthorne Bl. there are Salvadorean and Ecuadorian restaurants.

          2. for great hawaiian food, hit up bruddhah's! be warned, it is a bonafide dive joint, but the food is damn good for the mainland.
