I am looking for an upscale, fabulous food, cocktail and fun dining experience. Something new(er), intimate (not too loud but not too quiet)--can be expensive just not looking for $125 prix fixe. Tried Schwa (for Nov!) and it was booked. Anyone have any thoughts?

  1. I don't know if you've been to Blackbird, but in my opinion, it's the top of the less fancy upscale dining spots in Chicago. Although it's certainly not new or newer.

If you have not been to Sweets & Savories, I would highly recommend that too. In terms of a place that comes closest to rivaling Schwa, I'd say it's Sweets & Savories, although the latter is a bit less innovative and less minimalist. The food is outstanding though and the tasting menu offers one of the best deals in town. Here's more on S&S: http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic....

thanks for the post. been to blackbird many times, even once for my birthday. too minimalist. i know, i know, so is schwa, it was just the tasting, byo and small nature of the place that had my interest peaked. had brunch at s&s which I enjoyed but wanted something trendier w/o being louder--no kleiner types--nothing too quiet, have my 27 y.o sister, too. last year did blue water grill and was underwhelmed by the food. year before le lan and so on. was thinking maybe sola (but possible too casual) or copperblue or something along that vein.

I have been to Sola twice recently, and although I enjoyed both meals, I would say that I was slightly underwhelmed. I would say that the atmosphere is rather subdued also, leading to a quieter, older crowd. Here's what I had to say in more detail: http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic....
