Midtown East Dinner plans

I have friends coming into town this weekend, they are staying at The Waldorf. About six of us will be gathering to dine Saturday night. Any recommendations of a good food, not exhorbitantly priced restaurant would be appreciated. Spicy might or might not work for all (there will be gastroenterologists among us), but we'd like to avoid hotel food or anything else overpriced and generally blah. Thanks.

Must the restaurant be near the Waldorf? Also, "not exhoritant" can have a different meaning depending on one's economic status, so give us a per person figure and tell us if that amount includes drinks (wine, liquor), tax & tip.
