She touches on some subjects often discussed here - over pouring of bottled water, lack of salt and pepper at the table, the travelling pepper mill, etc.

    I loved that editorial. I often live that editorial.

    Now watch restaurant owners, chefs, and servers come out of the woodwork via Letters to the Editor to say that Nora Ephron has no idea what she is talking about and they know how to make her meal more enjoyable whether she likes it or not.

      Great article. Overpouring of bottled water and wine is a pet peeve of mine. What I do --firmly but nicely--is to put my hand over my glass and say, "Thank you, but I will be pouring my own beverage during this meal."

        "I’ve noticed that almost no one wants some fresh ground black pepper on his salad"? Sure doesn't match my experience. I've never seen these alleged giant dessert spoons, either.

          Maybe the giant dessert spoon is a coastal phenom, because we're really afflicted with it in LA!
